Immersed in nature

Our modern-day manor is located in Buitenplaats Haagwijk, a country-park estate dating back to the 17th century. The beautiful surrounding landscape was our starting point. The park forms part of a unique area connecting green polders and seaside dunes, and has historic links to nearby Duivenvoorde castle. Yet the location between Leiden and The Hague offers residents the best of both worlds: access to restful nature, even within the urban conglomeration of the Randstad. We wanted to underscore the natural vibe by creating a strong relationship between our buildings, the gardens, the park and the surrounding landscape.

It’s a unique responsibility to add a contemporary building to a historic estate like this one. We created a collection of wonderful apartments that together form one stylish whole. It’s our timeless interpretation of living on an estate.’

Ground Floor — We channel the great houses of the past with the grand, double-height entrance and the main staircase with its skylight – two features that define the design and give it a palatial quality. From the entrance, there is a sightline to the landscape to the rear of the building.

First Floor — We used careful spatial organization to place 14 bright, spacious apartments, varying in size from 117 to 195m2, inside the ‘big house’. We placed the garage underground, to maximize the feeling of space and country living.

Second Floor — We gave each individual apartment its own outdoor space in the form of a balcony or terrace, enhancing the atmosphere of private luxury. We added floor-to-ceiling windows to further take advantage of the wonderful views.

Third Floor — At the top of the building, we gave the penthouses generous outdoor terraces offering fresh air and countryside panoramas.
