Using a system of abstract white vaults, we generated an array of different spaces and atmospheres.’

Our client presented us with a wide range of programmatic demands for this project – everything from a wine cellar and an art gallery, to a gaming room and a teriyaki bar. We wanted to provide all of these without interrupting the powerful sensation of continuous space. Our solution was to create a strong core around a dramatic spiral staircase, allowing the space to flow freely around it. We used swooping white vaults, in a range of different forms and scales, to define the various functions, and to capture and reflect the daylight and frame the views.

One of our largest living spaces, this apartment uses different scales for each function – a strategy we borrowed from urban design.

Weightless wonder — We aimed at a weightless atmosphere, and a building that dematerializes as it moves away from its central core in both outward and upward directions. In doing so we make space, rather than materials, the main carrier of luxury.
